Review

The visitors kicked off, and play was continued to the home territory for some time, but eventually the pressure was relieved, and the Thistle had a look in. The game improved as it progressed, and some very clever and interesting play was witnessed. At times it seemed as if the Celts had the upper hand, and they frequently worked the ball so well in front of the posts that a goal seemed imminent. But partly through luck and partly by good defence the home team always managed to extricate themselves, and then a rapid and well-combined rush would transfer the play to the other end, with the result that the Celtic goal was often in danger. The Thistle played better than they have done for some time. No goals were scored during the first half.
Shortly after the game was resumed play settled down in the Thistle's ground, and the home team had to act strictly on the defensive. A rapid rush up the field, followed by a beautiful shot from the left, brought a cry of "goal" to the lips of the thistle supporters. the ball, however, went wide, and the Celts immediately carried it to the other end of the field. the Celtic continued to have rather the best of it, but the Thistle offered a stubborn defence, and this, coupled with the fact that the Celts were very wide in their shooting, kept the home goal intact. It was 12 minutes from the finish a goal was scored, at which time Groves put on a rather unexpected point for the Celts.
The result was:- Celtic, 2 goals; Thistle, 0.
