Celtic v Hibernians – The interest which centred in this match attracted a big crowd to Celtic Park. Losing the toss the Hibernians came away grandly, but McKeown spoiled Quigley, and Groves made tracks for the opposite end. Coyle relieved, and again the Hibs bore down, and a grand effort culminated in the ball being shot past McLaughlin. The Hibs during the first ten minutes of the game played a much superior game than their opponents. Steadying the furious onslaught of the Hibs, The Celts resumed their usual tactics. Dunbar tries a long shot, but the ball went wide.
From the kick off from goal, Kelly sent in a long high shot into goal. Brogan was unsuccessful in clearing, and Dunbar was down on him ere he could recover, and the game was thus equal. Coleman put the ball passed Brogan for the second time to the delight of their supporters. McGhee and Flannigan changed the venue of operations, but the backs were equal to the onslaught, and soon Coleman headed past Brogan for the third time. Though in a minority the Hibs did not lose heart.
At half-time the Celts led by 3 goals to 1. On resuming, shots from Kelly, Coleman and Groves were averted, and McMahon just missed the bar at the other end by inches. The Celtic now played with the visitors, their passing, trickery, and effectiveness being simply superb.
Ten minutes from time play was stopped owing to darkness, the Celtic leading by seven goals to one.

From newspaper report from the time.

On Celtic Park the Celtic received a visit from the Hibernians. A large crowd turned out, and the proceeds of the match, which go to an Edinburgh Institution, should greatly benefit that charity.
The Hibernians were fully represented. The Celtic were without a few of their usual team, and started with ten men. The Hibs kicked off, and immediately put the Celtic goal in jeopardy, McLaughlin having to knock out a hot shot. The Hibs continued to press, and ultimately James McGhee sent in a beauty which had the desired effect.
The Celtic then assumed the aggressive, and gave their opponents considerable trouble. The Celtic got two corners, but the second one, which was an outcome of the first, was sent behind and thus the Hibernians luckily got clear.
The game, which was of a fast character, proceeded on the run and counter run principle for a short time, and then the Celtic equalised, Dunbar scoring.
The Hibs, after the kick off, looked like scoring, but the ball went past. After Hibs, Groves got on the ball about midfield, and was starting a run, when he was tripped by one of the Hibs. A free kick was given to the Celtic from which a goal was secured, as Coleman after a short scrimmage in front of the Hibs’ goal sent in a splendid shot.
The Hibs, then had a look in, but only for a limited time, as the Celts assumed the offensive, Coleman headed it through.
Towards the close of the first half the game became very fast and exciting, but no further scoring took place before the interval.
The score at half-time standing in favour of the Celtic by three goals to one.
Within five minutes of the commencement of the second half the Celtic sent in three stiff shots, one of which Brogan saved, and the last striking the post went over the bar. Some give-and-take play followed, and then the Hibernians pressed for a short time.
At last the Celts got clear, and transferring the play to the other end, Groves sent in a shot which Brogan could not save. Groves, a little later, added another goal.
The Hibernians warmed up a bit after this and made an attack on their opponents’ citadel, but were repulsed, and the Celtic getting away.
W Maley put on a sixth goal, followed shortly after by a seventh, credited to T Maley, who shot splendidly after he had executed a rousing run up the field.
The remainder of the game, which had to be stopped ten minutes before the time on account of the darkness, was stiffly contested and the result was – Celtic, 7 goals; Hibernians, 1 goal.
