Review

The second visit of the English Cup holders to Celtic Park, Parkhead, caused great excitement among local footballers. Long before the hour great crowds began to arrive, and when play started the large stands were crowded, and upwards of 10,000 spectators were on the field. Both teams were well received on entering the field. The Rovers brought down a poor team with them, Forbes, Southworth, and Townley being all absent. The Celtic played the identical team which defeated Dumbarton on Saturday. Reynolds was late in turning up, and the Celts started a man short. About five minutes after time Cockshoot kicked off for Rovers, but the ball was well returned, and the Celts were soon down at the strangers' goal. it was a narrow shave, Gow saved well and loose play let in the Rovers, Hall and Hill bringing the ball up well. Nothing came of it, and the Celts, headed by McMahon raced down in brilliant style. Dowds shot through, but was adjudged offside. Not to be denied, the home team returned, and Campbell headed the first goal past Gow. The Celts continued to have the best of matters, The Rovers' display lacking the decisiveness of former encounters. The left pair were only genuine workers in front, the centre and right wing being a bit weak. A mistake by Reynolds gave the Rovers a chance of equalising. Hall pounced on the ball and smartly did the trick. A brisk attack followed at the other end, Kelly single handed took the ball well up, and shot a grand goal. At half-time the score stood:- Celtic, three goals; Rovers, two goals.
After a rather long interval, the second half opened with the Celtic pressing. From a corner McMahon headed a splendid goal. Reynolds cleared, but the Rovers returned, and Walton scored. Barton and Dewar were in magnificent form at half. For the visitors Forrest equalised once more with a high shot. hard and exciting play followed.
Result:- Celtic, five goals; Blackburn Rovers, five.
