Review

Weather fine, and the ground in the best condition. Sunderland winning the toss got advantage of the slight breeze in the first half. Play ruled fast mostly in the visitors half of the ground, but of the Celtic, Campbell, McMahon, and Madden often took the ball cleverly up to near the Sunderland goal. The defence of the Celtic was good, and it was half an hour before Sunderland scored, when J Campbell charged Cullen through.
Half time Sunderland, 1 to nil.
In the second half play was again fast, and Maley charged Scott so hard that the latter had to be taken off the field. Then Celtic stormed the Sunderland goal. Toward the finish play was very rough, and the referee had to caution the men. Sunderland then continued to press till the finish, but could make no further effect.
And the game ended - Sunderland, 1; Celtic, nil.
