- Friendly match played at Celtic Park, Parkhead.
ReviewAmong the holiday fixtures, this match was by no means devoid of interest as was evidenced by the large assemblage of people who thronged the stands and ropes despite the extremely cold weather. Although under a special treatment since Saturday, the ground was pretty hard and barely playable at the commencement of the game.
Both clubs had their strongest teams out, and a good game was expected. Some delay was occasioned by the Hearts turning up late, but when they made their appearance no time was lost and the ball was kicked off with a strong biting wind blowing down the field.
The home team early showed their superiority, but they were not a little taxed by the sudden rushes which the visitors indulged in on every opportunity. This continued until Ellis for the Hearts scored the first goal and Morrison added a second. This had the effect of rousing up the home team, but the splendid defence of Fairbairn, the custodian of the Hearts, kept the score the same until half-time.
In the second half the game became more exciting, and the home team gave a characteristic exhibition of passing, which ended by Madden putting through the ball to the satisfaction of the Celtic supporters. The Celts continued to press their opponents, and it became more apparent that they were having the best of the game, and when McMahon sent through the equalising shot the interest, if that were possible, redoubled.
the play continued in this way, the Celts shooting and Fairbairn saving, until the finish when the result was - Celtic, 2; Hearts, 2.
Goals:- McMahon, Madden.
Goals:- Ellis, Morrison.
