League Table

From newspaper reports from the time.

Report 1

The home team were first to be aggressive, but the effort was not a very deadly one. The Celts had two corners but gained nothing from them. The play was fast and clever, but the back play of both teams was very good, and the goalkeepers got very little to do.
The first half was very even, and at the close no goals had been scored.
Early in the second half a mistake by the Renton backs enabled Mulvey to score for the Celtic, and ten minutes later a foul at the Renton goalmouth produced a second goal. The play in this half was much in favour of the Celtic and time after time McCall saved brilliantly. Renton could not make any progress against the Celtic backs, Curran and Doyle.
Towards the close, Renton had one or two good tries, but failed to score, and the game ended in a win for the Celtic by two goals to nil.

Report 2
The Celts visited Renton on Saturday and played off their fixture with the ground club. Five of the Celts were absent, and Lindsay, Renton’s goalkeeper, was also away.
The first half of the game was unproductive of goals. Renton had a big share of the play, and bothered the Celtic defence severely. Doyle was in great form, and his huge kicks were cheered by the spectators. Madden was fast on the ball, and dribbled nicely through Renton’s half-backs, but A McCall was continually stopping his further progress.
Fifteen minutes from half-time Renton forwards surrounded the Celts’ goal. A shot from Rankin struck the cross-bar and rebounded into play. Allison once more returned it, and in the scrimmage Doyle conceded a corner, which was abortive.
Renton worked hard for a goal this half, and had very hard lines. Renton‘s goal had also a narrow escape at the closing minutes of this period. A combined run from the Celtic forwards in front of Baird. A shot from Blessington was stopped smartly by Lindsay, but in clearing the leather struck Madden and rebounded off the crossbar. Rankin timely relieved.
The first minutes of the second half saw Celts division attacking briskly. Renton backs made a stubborn resistance, but after eight minutes’ play Mulvey gave Henderson the slip, and had no difficulty in beating Baird. At this reverse, Renton forwards made a bold attempt to get a shot at Cullen. Doyle intercepted a fine bit of play between McCall and McGregor, and the Glasgow men once more tested the Renton defence. A McCall turned the ball at the most critical moment, and was playing a grand game.
A foul ten yards from the Renton goal was smartly taken by the Celts, and the ball rushed through before Renton could line up. Towards the close of the game, the village lads made desperate efforts to improve their position, but failed.
Result – Celtic, 2; Renton, 0.
