An ill-tempered game with Airdrie defending well and Celtic unable to get the winning goal. “The coolest player on the park was Evans.”

Fully 24,000 saw Airdrie kick off at Bloomfield Park with the sun behind them. A free kick on the edge of the penalty box taken by Collins allowed Peacock to open the scoring after 8 minutes. Airdrie’s defence stood up well to further Celtic pressure, Dingwall and Shankland being outstanding.
Excitement was evident and tempers were inclined to be on edge. Airdrie equalised 5 minutes from half time, a grand cross from McCulloch leading to Shields scoring

The pace increased in the second half Celtic going all out for a leading goal and Airdrie being for the most part on the defensive.
tempers continued to be ruffled and the referee was not blameless for some of the happenings. After Tully had been cautioned after an incident with Baird Airdrie losat a perfect chance of scoring when a perfect cross from McCulloch was spoiled by McGurn tripping over the ball when he had only Bonnar to beat. At the other end Fraser did well to save headers from Peacock and Collins.
Airdrie deserved their draw particularly as T Brown played almost the whole of the second half under the handicap of an injury.
