Alex Rollo and George Hunter were granted free transfers at the end of the season. George Hunter went to Derby County and Alex Rollo signed for Kilmarnock.

• League Cup 1953-54 The Celtic players went to Switzerland for the World Cup from June 13th to July 2nd and reported back to Celtic Park on 14th July.

New signings at the start of the season included Eamon McMahon, Peter Goldie. Sam Hemple was freed when he failed to sign a new contract. He signed for Albion Rovers in August.
