Trivia

  • The fallout from the defeat at home by Kilmarnock which saw Celtic drop to second behind Hibernian was felt in this game. Frank Meechan was dropped for debutante Peter Goldie. Jock Stein was again fit after four months out and took over at centre half with Evans going to his favoured left half position and Mike Conroy dropping out;
  • Dick Beattie had played in goal for Scotland U23s against Clyde on 14th December.
  • The game was played with the lighter (in weight) and lighter (in colour) white ball.

Review

Peter Goldie made a good debut and Jock Stein was finally back after recovering from the cracked bone in his ankle. The game however was less of a test than it could have been and the Jags were pretty much overwhelmed.
