Review

Celtic faced into the wind in the first half but Mochan started in the form he was showing and nearly scored early. Despite the Celtic pressure it was Rangers that opened the scoring with Kichenbrand scoring with a header from a Baird cross. Collins immediately equalised from a Sharkey pass.

The game was played at a cracking pace with end-to-end action. Sharkey got Celtic’s second beating Niven off the underside of the bar with a left foot shot. The scores were levelled 2 minutes before half time when Rangers were awarded a penalty.

The second half began with the wind up to gale strength which Rangers now had to play into along with icy rain which began to fall. Simpson was booked for a tackle on Collins. Sharkey put Celtic ahead when he was given all the time and space to pick his spot. Fallon then diverted a ball into his own net to take it back to three a piece.

Rangers gained a second wind and started to turn the screw with Evans and Peacock having to be doubly alert. But it was Celtic that took the honours with Collins getting a second goal and Willie Fernie popping up four minutes from the end to head home. Rangers first two goals were attributed to errors by Beattie.

Celtic were the better side with superior fitness and skill over the 90.
