Review

Far from being a Friendly, this game was played at full tilt with both sides taking no prisoners. Despite an overrall superiority of Manchester Utd in the first half and a multitude of attacks the score was still 0-0 at half time. Beattie had to be replaced by John Bonnar in the Celtic goal as early as the 24th minute when the No1 keeper picked up a shoulder injury. Duncan Edwards was outstanding for Manchester Utd in both attack and defense if being somewhat robust in his tackles – robust enough for Mr Mowat to have words with him before half time. Tully appeared to suffer a leg injury and was subbed by Billy Craig in the second half with the line going to Higgins-Craig-Sharkey-Fernie-Mochan. Mochan got the opener and won the penalty seven minutes later. Manchester Utd then stepped up the pressure again and levelled through Scanlon and Doherty.
