Review

Celtic's form continued to slump with this 2-0 loss to the amatuers at Hampden. Played in the rain, Queen's Park started well and troubled the Celtic goal several times in the first ten minutes. Celtic in contrast were sluggish and it took 35 minutes to get a shot on goal. The score was 0-0 at half time.
Celtic came out for the second after getting a rocket. They started better and with Evans and Peacock supporting every move and had chances from Tully, Fernie and Smith. Devine had briefly to retire for Queens with a leg injury but was back on after five minutes. Church got the first, a headed goal from a McEwan cross. He followed that up with a second from a Hopper run and cross. Celtic attacked in wave after wave following the goals. Tully went sprawling, Ryan hit the post and then Tully missed an open net. In the end Queen's Park deserved their victory over a poor and very slow-out-the-blocks Celtic.
Following the game there was a fair degree of abuse hurled at the 'plush' seats where Robert Kelly and other Celtic directors sat. The call appeared to be for new blood to be brought in. Five of the team that played had been brough into the club in the 40's. The most recent signing was Beattie.
