Trivia

  • Bobby Collins made his return after recovering from a broken ankle, his first game since November 3rd. Sean Fallon also returned to the league, having played in the Friendly against Dumbarton. A return too for Billy McPhail at centre forward. Out went Jim Kennedy, Jim Sharkey and Charlie Tully. Falkirk were unchanged for the third consecutive game.

Review

A game played in sunshine but bitterly cold with the pitch cutting up. Falkirk started well and Celtic escaped when Greirson beat Fallon and his shot swerved to hit the post and out. In fact Falkirk should have taken their chances at the start when Celtic were missing passes and they had three good chances to go ahead. As it was Mochan and McPhail showed the way when Billy won a header and rounded Irvine before laying the ball on to Mochan who scored from close range. The initiative passed to Celtic who dominated for the rest of the half without adding to the score.
McPhail got a second in the second half with a header from a Fernie corner and 12 minutes later a shot from Bobby Collins was diverted past the keeper by Higgins off his back. Five minutes from time Irvine sliced the ball home for an own goal when tryinmg to intercept a cross from Fernie.
