Review

A heavily sanded, frost affected pitch saw the unchanged sides run out at Ibrox. Rangers indulged in 'coarse' tackling with Fernie constantly hacked throughout the game with Simpson being booked in the 28th minute. Celtic were smaller but more mobile than Rangers and took full advantage of their speed to baffle and outplay Rangers who then resorted to the crude tactics mentioned without real censure from the referee. Higgins got the opener when he tangled with Baird but managed to get his shot away and Niven managed to palm it onto the post and it trundled across the line. Mochan got a second with a trademark piledriver ten minutes from half time. Beattie had little to do till half way through the second half and Jack, far from his two errors in the first came was calm and collected at centre half.
