Trivia

  • Practically every Celt that had played in the replay against Rangers on the Wednesday and had faced the heavy tackling had visited Willie Johnstone, the trainer's bench for treatment. Foremost among them was Willie Fernie who caught the brunt of the Ibrox 'football'. Sean Fallon had bruising to both legs and Bertie Peacock was carrying a knee injury. Charlie Tully came in for John Higgins who along with Fernie had born the brunt of Rangers football.

Review

A game played on an icy and sanded pitch with snow falling during the game. The conditions to a high degree tempered the game and there was a degree of chance throughout all the play with the result uncertain to the end – indeed Aberdeen might have equalised at the end had Mulhall better controlled Leggat's pass. Celtic continued to play close passing football and benefitted from this in the conditions. Collins, McPhail and Fernie combined well and it was from one of these moves that McPhail opened the scoring. Mochan got a second from a delightful bit of football involving Ferie and McPhail again. Aberdeen pulled one back a minute later when a shot from Allister was deflected in by Jack.
The conditions became worse in the second half and the teams played out till the end.
