Trivia

  • The last league game of the season. This draw saw Celtic finish 5th in the league and Queen of the South survived relegatiion with the point gained at the expense of Dunfermiline. Rangers won the league by two points from Hearts, who had made all the running throughout the season only to hand the league to Rangers with four games to play.
  • Peter Goldie came in at left back for Fallon with the usual left back reserve, Frank Meechan needed to take John Jack's place at centre half. Alec Byrne was fit again and displaced Vince Ryan.
  • Celtic gave free transfers to John McAlindon who had been centre forward against Airdrieonians not nine days before. Also released were goalkeeper Benny McCreadie who had managed 1 first team appearance one week before, Ian Reid and Billy Craig.

Review

The only game of the season that Queen of the South failed to concede a goal. However it all looked to be of lttle use as Dunfermiline appeared to be drawing 2-2 with Rangers which would have seen the Dumfries club relegated. Luck for them though was in and the Fifers eventually succumbed 4-3 to the mighty 'gers to go down and QotS survived. As for Celtic….. well it was simply the last tedious game at the end of a tedious season. The team were 'shot-shy' and never looked either dangerous or like winning
