1957-08-14: East Fife 1-4 Celtic, League Cup

Trivia

  • Willie Fernie failed to recover from the double vision he received in the game against Airdrie. The right half position was clearly going to start the season as the troubled spot. All this was because somehow the management did not trust John Jack at centre half despite playing him there constantly the previous season. This meant Bobby Evans having to go to centre half. In came Sammy Wilson for his debut game. Up front Jim Sharkey was preferred at inside left with Army man Eric Smith having to return to Worcester barracks and his National Service duty. This too was a certain tinkering. Sammy Wilson WAS an inside left and had been recruited for that position.
  • A 7:00 pm kick off at Bayview Park, Methil.
