Trivia

  • Played at Ibrox with a 7:00pm kick off.
  • Both sides declared all their players fit but neither side declared a team prior to the announcement before kick off.
  • The Celtic fans were all in a rage after three League Cup games with demands for Evans to be moved back to right half and Fernie moved into the forward line. For this game the experiment continued again with limited success. Frank Meechan paid the price for his own goal against Hibernian and was dropped in favour of John Donnelly, who came in for his debut.

Review

Everything but the ability to put the ball in the back of the net. 1 – 0 to Rangers right up to the 89th minute. Rangers opened the scoring with a resourceful breakaway after Celtic had squandered chances from the opening whistle. Donnelly in his debut was effective and intelligent keeping Hubbard bottled up. Tully pretty much gave a masterclass in how to be a football player. But the tenor of the game was of Celtic squandering chances, none more so than inside left Jim Sharkey. Both Beattie and Fallon picked up knocks in the game.
