Trivia

  • A 6:45 kick off at Celtic Park.
  • Last minute decisions (or the general Celtic Park 'dignity' at not talking to the press) were the order of the day and the team was not called before the announcement before kick off. Sammy Wilson finally started in his preferred inside left slot. The half back of fernie experiment continued.
  • Stan Seymour, acting manager of Newcastle Utd was at the game to watch Willie Fernie. It was heavily rumoured that Newcastle Utd would table a bid for Fernie who was said to be unhappy at playing right half. He was rated at £18,000. Robert Kelly the Celtic chairman stated that there was no way that Fernie would be sold.

Review

Unlike the games so far this season, Celtic took all their chances, of which there were many, offered by a rather poor East Fife side. The pick of the goals was Sammy Wilson's second – Celtic's sixth, as it meant that based on goal average Celtic now only needed a draw against Hibs to progress through to the quarter finals.
