Review

Celtic went to Bayview Park aware of the reputation of the ground. Bayview, in a similar way to Stirling Albions's Annfield ground in the early 50's, had come to be a bit of a bogie ground for Celtic, particulartly in League games. East Fife's swift and direct football certainly un-nerved Celtic at the start of the game. The Fifers however, failed to have a finishing touch and despite good approach play and a lot of first half possession they failed to score when it mattered. Towards the end of the first half Celtic had swung the game round and were starting to dominate play. This pattern continued into the second half and they finally got their rewayd on 58 minutes. A shot from Tully was punched out by Allan straight to Mochan's feet and the ball was driven home low and hard. Having got their heads in front Celtic went to town. East Fife defended desperately but could not stop McPhail adding two goals, his first from a cheeky dribble and pass home when everyone was expecting a blasted ball, and the second a header from a Tully cross.
