Review

An even start but on 11 minutes the jags went ahead in a move started by Kerr and finished low and hard from 14 yards by Mathers. On 29 minutes Fernie was stretchered from the fiweld with a leg injury. He came back on after 5 minutes switching positions with Eric Smith. The jags went two up on 39 minutes with a move again started by Kerr. This time Harvey shot and scored from 25 yards. The Thistle goalkeeper damaged his hand in a challenge with Collins just before half time and Harvey took over in goal.

The second half saw Thomson back in the Thistle goal but Fernie was absent for Celtic. Seven minutes into the half McPhail collided with Thomson and needed stretchering off for another leg injury. Down to nine men, Celtic fought back with two quick goals. The first arrived from an indirect free kick when WEric Smith was impeded in the box. The ball was slipped to Mochan who rocketed home.

The second again came from Mochan when he beat two players to shoot home. McPhail came back on going to the left wing. However it was the Maryhill magyars who had the last kick when Kerr scored with a shot that went in off the underside of the bar.

A painful loss, Celtic's first of the season in the League and at home. Worst still were the injuries to Fernie and McPhail in the light of the next-but-one game against top-of-the-table Hearts which was being billed as the League decider.
