- Matt McVittie was out for this game with another cyst on his neck which required treatment; Colrain was now fit from his alleged leg knock and back in the side but at inside right, and Ian Lochhead came back in at centre forward after being rested. Mike Jackson and Alec Byrne missed out.
- Thistle were stricken by injury and had to call up Kennedy at centre half who had been farmed out to junior side Thornliewood
- Results elsewhere meant that Queen of the South would be relegated at the end of the season.
ReviewA game described by all commentators as quiet and lethargic.
Both sides had attacks and then generally fired over or wide. The most interesting action was a 'dispute' between Sammy Wilson and McParland after the Celt had been floored by the Jag. Shortly after Celtic went ahead when Smith sent a pass through to Slater who beat Ledgerwood with a shot from the corner of the box. Celtic settled after the goal and were dominant for the rest of the half without scoring, though Lochhead did hit the post.
At the start of the second half Celtic pushed for another which duly came when Lochhead passed to Colrain who let fly from 20 yds to fly past Ledgerwood. Thistle had no answer to the Celtic game and never really got going. However despite all the advantages and much of the play Celtic failed to add to their two goals. This was even with Hogan having to retire for Thistle with a leg knock 25 minutes before the end.
