  • The English Football League came to an agreement with the Professional Footballers Association (Jimmy Hill was the chairman) so averting a football strike south of the border. The minimum wage was to be set at £15 per week for the First Division, £14 per week for the Second Division and £12 per week for the Third and Fourth. The maximum length of contract to be offered by a club was to be 2 years and the maximum wage limit was dropped.
  • John Hughes had recovered from his injury and came back in at centre forward at the expense of Jim Conway, who was in fact injured. Willie Fernie was also injured and Alec Byrne still recovering from his shoulder injury. The transfer negotiations to move on Bertie Auld looked to have fallen through enough that he was again included in the team.
  • The A Reserves played Aberdeen Reserves and were 3-0 up at half time. The team was Fallon, Donnelly, Jim Upton, Kurila, McNamee, Clark, Carroll, Jackson, Kelly, Don McMillan, Brogan.
  • Frost again and iron-hard ground conditions made it slippery under foot again for both teams./

Review

Both sides had good chances in the first half with the goalkeepers having to be alert. Celtic opened the scoringwith a cleaver goal. Hughes took the ball out wide before slipping it to Gallacher in the centre who scored. Chalmers soon added a second with a neat gheader from a Divers lob.
Celtic had more chances to go further ahead at the start of the second half and on 66 minutes ther Dons pulled one back when Brownlie beat Haffey with a sharp shot. Divers completed the scoring when he cut in and shot. Ogston fumbled and Divers was there to knock home.
