Review

Celtic eased through this game against Shamrock Rovers with McBride giving a polished performance and proving that Celtic had invested wisely in their most expensive player. McNeill commanded the defense. Murdoch and Clark distributed the ball round the field with ease with Clark linking well with Lennox and Hughes. Chalmers replaced Gallacher at half time when Celtic were 4-0 up. Gallacher got the first goal after three minutes with a pass from Hughes. Hughes scored the second from a Johnstone cross. McBride headed the third five minutes later and then quickly added a fourth when he intercepted a back pass. Lennox, who had a quiet first half woke up in the second scoring two goals, his first a diving header from a Johnstone cross, and his second came when he hammered home a Hughes rebound from a post. McBride finished the scoring in the last minute.
