  • Jimmy Johnstone and Ian Young miss the game on account of their weddings. Both had returned home to Scotland after the third Tottenham Hotspur game in Vancouver.
  • The touring party was now down to 12 fit players with McCarron, Cushley and Auld all injured – curiously with ankle injuries – and Johnstone and Young having returned home.
  • The tour party moved on to Los Angeles for the final game of the tour against Mexican club Atlas. Played on a Sunday night at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles.

The Celtic party left Los Angeles and returned to New York on the night after the game. On the 14th June they had a day to go shopping in New York and left on thew 14th June from New York arriving at Prestwick on the morning of the 15th. They were met by over 200 family and supporters welcoming them home.

Jock Stein left for London where he was presented with a cheque for £1000 for winning the British manager of the year award presented by Westclox. Bill Shankly won the English Manager of the Year award.

Steve Chalmers and John Clark joined the Scotland pool of players at Largs to train and play Portugal and Brazil in two pre-World Cup friendlies.
