Review

An incident-full and action-packed game which saw Bertie Auld and Tommy Callaghan booked and Dunfermilines's Fraser stretchered from the field.
Dunfermline were a splendid team at this time but this result was still viewed as a shock and up to this point was Jock Stein's worst domestic result as Celtic manager.

Dunfermline were bold in their approach and Ronnie Simpson made two fine saves from Tom Callaghan. In 39 minutes Brogan scored with a powerful shot through the Dunfermline wall for a fine goal but the goals was controversially disallowed for offside.

In the second half Celtic's forwards toiled to make an impression and in 62 minutes Robertson gave Dunfermline the lead with a scrambled goal after Celtic defenders had blocked goal bound shots from a move started by the sub. Hunter
In 74 minutes Dunfermline clinched the tie after Cattanach made a hash of a pass back which allowed Gardner an easy chance to score.

Celtic badly missed Clark's presence in defence and Lennox's speed in attack. After this game both players would not be left out again until the end of the season.

Stein was magnanimous in defeat against his old club and the Pars went on to win the final in May against Hearst at Hampden.
