Review

On a bright summers day Celtic won well at Ibrox.
Stein sprang a surprise by playing the 19 year old George Connelly in his first start in the first team. He had a splendid game.

Wallace opened the scoring after Johnstone had eluded the Rangers defence by racing clear through the middle. Sorensen saved well at Johnstone’s feet but the ball broke too Wallace who fired the ball home. The second goal was a disaster for Greig who miscued a pass back to his keeper. The ball rolled goalwards and Wallace was allowed an easy tap in for 2-0.

In the second half Rangers pressed strongly and Simpson had a wonderful match, keeping the Rangers forwards at bay with a succession of fine saves.
