Trivia

  • A Wednesday night game.
  • Bobby Murdoch had recovered from his hip injury which had kept him out for a few games. So too was Bobby Lennox and both resumed their places in the starting line up. George Connelly and Jim Brogan dropped out with forgotten man Tommy Callaghan coming in on the bench.
  • Before the game Jock Stein told the press that his teams would go for goals and that the last time they had played a defensive game was against Dukla Prague.
  • Bob Shankly resigned as manager of Hibernian quite suddenly. Speculation had it that he was headed to Celtic Park!

Review

A superb Celtic performance going straight into the attack from the off. Wallace got the first goal from an opening made by Bobby Lennox. Lennox himself got the second following up when a Chalmers shot was blocked by the Killie keeper and the rebound fell to Bobby to prod home. Other chances fell to the bhoys and had they all been taken they would have been six up. Instead just on half time Mathie sent a speculative lob at the Celtic goal which eluded Fallon and they went in with the score at 2-1 for Celtic.
In the second half Wallace hit the post before scoring the third with a header from a Harry Hood cross. Morrison pulled a headed goal back for Kille but Lennox had the last say when he hit a terrific shot just before the end.
