Trivia

  • Gemmell, Hughes and Johnstone all came out of the bruising encounter with Kilmarnock before Christmas with knocks. Hughes recovered from a heel injury as did Jimmy Johnstone from a leg injury but Tommy Gemmell's ankle knock kept him out of theis game with Jim Craig coming in. Bertie Auld was a preferred starter to Bobby Lennox who was on the bench.
  • Willie Wallace was given the penalty rather with Tommy Gemmell out and the goal marked his 100th goal for Celtic since his signing in December 1966.
  • Partick Thistle were having a torrid season and were bottom of the league.
  • The game was played in thickening fog.
  • The last game of the 60's

Review

Evan Williams made his second league appearance and again had an untroubled game – his biggest effort being picking the ball out the net in the 38th minute.
This was all a game about Wispy's 100. he went close early on but it was John Hughes that got the ball rolling after neat interplay with Wallace. After that it was a procession of Celtic goals broken by Smith's 64th minute consolation goal for the Jags.

At the end of the year Celtic stood at the top of the table
