I do remember seeing the head-patting incident and Cairney's reaction. Is it possible that the photo of Craig and Johnston doesn't belong to the 3-1 game or is Jim's memory wrong? Or did he score an OG in another Rangers game?"

I was at both OF games referred to here - Jim was sent off at Ibrox in September 1969 when Celtic won 1-0 (Harry Hood). The incident for which he was dismissed happened on the touchline facing the old enclosure (later the Centenary Stand). I was in the enclosure rather than the uncovered Celtic end that day, as it was pouring rain. The ball ran out for a throw in, and as JC retrieved it, Johnston said something to him. Jim immediately kicked him on the shin, and Johnston went down. The referee summoned him over, and Jim was already sprinting to the tunnel as the finger went up (pre-card days!).

In the cup tie at Celtic Park, on Feb 21, 1970, I recall the incident just as Jamiebs describes it. Curiously, it was teeming rain on this day too! Johnston and Stein both ruffled Jim's hair after his og,and Jim aimed a kick in frustration at Johnston. Fortunately, he missed.
