Trivia

  • Stein leaves his stand seat for the bench after only 11 minutes.
  • An unchanged team from the one that played Kilmarnock midweek. Andy Lynch came on for his debut as a sub for the last half hour.
  • The much hyped 6000th goal becomes a strain as another point is dropped but Murdoch's shot in a crowded penalty area goes into the history books.
  • Murdoch wins an autographed match ball and 23 piece tea set for his efforts presented by James McGrory.

Murdoch receives honour for 6000th goal.

Report

Referee Ian Foote feels the wrath of Jock Stein and the Celtic fans after denying five decent penalty claims against Thistle.
As was usual this season Celtic gave away the opening goal, this time to Bobby Lawrie from a Stevie Chalmers corner.
The more the game went on the more desperate Celtic became. Eventually Bobby Murdoch got the goal with twenty minutes left to play and Callaghan hit the bar in the closing seconds with a rising shot.

Lisbon Lion Steve Chalmers impresses for Thistle.
