Trivia

  • This game had been arranged for a while and a team was already drawn up to travel to Kirkcaldy
  • The first team were due to play Morton on this Saturday. However on the day of the game the match was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Cappielow was like a quagmire. In order to give some of the first team a run out who would have been playing against Morton, Jock Stein tagged them onto the party for Kirkcaldy. This would have meant an extra run for Lennox and Hay.
  • Gerry McAleer had joined the club in July '72 as a left back from Celtic Boys Club and had been farmed out to Shettleston. He had been called up to the Reserves in August '73
  • Kevin McCool was an inside forward recruited from Derry City the previous season.
  • Tommy O'Hara was a midfielder from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy provisionally signed in 1971 and brought into the club in 1972.
