- Frank McGarvey makes his debut after his record £250,000 transfer fee from Liverpool.
- This is McGarvey's first senior appearance since playing for Scotland against Argentina in June 1979.
- 32,000 turn out on a bitterly cold night.
- Celtic play in unfamiliar green socks.
ReviewA larger than usual midweek crowd turned out to watch Frank McGarvey's debut. The game seemed to pass him by and he did not look fully fit and his ex St Mirren team mates were not slow to put in several heavy challenges on him.
McCluskey and Doyle showed they would not stand aside for McGarvey and they each scored to give Celts a two goal lead.
In the second half St Mirren had a go and scored twice through Somner. Celtic still pressed forward and Doyle struck a post with a minute left after a fine run.
