Trivia

  • Nicholas scores a glorious goal against Scotland keeper Alan Rough from outside the area.
  • Nicholas deemed finest Scottish attacking prospect since Kenny Dalglish.
  • Pope John Paul's visit to Scotland in 1982 is just announced and the Celtic fans in the Jungle sing 'The Pope's coming over, oh yes the Pope's coming over !'

Review

18 year old wonder kid Charlie Nicholas scores the best goal seen at Parkhaed for several years.

With Celtic 3-1 up Nicholas takes possession on the left side of the area, drops his shoulder past a defender, and swerves a wonderful shot past Scotland keeper Alan Rough who stands stranded.

The Jungle acclaim their new hero by chanting 'Charlie, Charlie.....Charlie, Charlie....!'

Nicholas poses for an Evening Times fashion photo shoot in midweek and some older Celtic fans resent the cult hero status he is having.
