1986-02-19: Celtic 1-0 Middlesbrough, Closed-Door Friendly

Trivia

Review

Celtic played this game at the invitation of Middlesbrough.
Due to weather conditions south of the border, Middlesbrough had not played a game since the 1st of February. Davie Hay wanted to give a run-out to players returning from injury and to get a look at players on the edge of the first team squad. Thus Pat Bonner – returning from his back injury, Paul McGugan – returning from a broken bone in his foot, Tony Shepherd – who had just won his first team debut on 15th February in the Cup game against Queen's Park, Alan McInally – who had been distinctly underused so far that season and Peter Grant – who was returning from an achilles injury, all started the game, with Danny McGrain, Derek Whyte and Ronnie Coyle on the bench.

The game was played behind closed doors and there is no record (as yet!) of the Middlesbrough team.
