Review

An evening game replay saw Celtic go through to win a 5th Round tie against Partick Thistle.

Hibs defended in depth and were able to frustrate Celtic’s attacking fluency. In 180 minutes Bonner was not called on to make a single save largely due to the presence of McCarthy. With Hibs attack nullified Celtic became adventurous up front.

McStay’s hard tackling and Grant’s committment meant 90% possession. Stark and Burns tested the flanks backed by overlapping full backs of Morris and Whyte. McGhee and McAvennie had a good number of chances.

Celtic hit bar twice and Goram had to pull off some big saves. Stark hit side netting then had a lob cleared off the line.

Finally with Joe Miller on for McGhee and 11 minutes remaining Miller and Burns worked a short free kick on the left, Burns squared the ball to Peter Grant 20yds out, he unleashed a fierce shot which hammered off the underside of the bar and down onto the line and as it bounced out four Celtic players converged on it Stark got there first. Hibs unable to raise their game.
