Review

Celtic lacked spark early on, but they carved out a good chance in the fourth minute. Fernandez pulled off his marker to control Hartson's centre, but he was unable to find the power or direction on the turn to beat Kenny Arthur from eight yards.
Celtic started to find their range and Fernandez's shot from the edge of the box was saved by Arthur before Shaun Maloney fired a right-foot drive just over the crossbar.
But Partick looked a threat on the break and Gerry Britton tested Douglas with a fierce volley from Alan Archibald's cross moments later.
Hartson came within inches of adding to his goal total in the 26th minute when his header from Fernandez's free-kick came back off the crossbar.
Celtic took the lead three minutes before the break. Hartson directed Jamie Smith's cross into the six-yard box and Lambert bravely dived in to head the ball into the back of the net.
Thistle started the second-half in determined fashion and Burns snatched an equaliser after 50 minutes sparking wild celebrations among the Partick fans.
But that woke up Celtic and Arthur did well to push Lambert's low shot around the post, before Hartson headed wide and Laursen had an effort cleared off the line.
In the 72nd minute Fernandez saw his header came back off the foot of the post. And four minutes later Celtic had another chance to take the lead but Smith failed to get proper contact on Sylla's whipped cross.
Fernandez was again thwarted by Arthur in the 78th minute when Hartson did well to let the ball run through to him, but the keeper got down well to push around the post.
Sylla, Maloney and Stillian Petrov all came close for Celtic in extra time while Partick were desperately unlucky not to go ahead. Scott McLean's header looked destined for the back of the net, but Smith headed clear off the goal-line as everybody looked anxiously at the linesman to see if the ball had crossed the line.
Amazingly after nine penalties apiece, Momo Sylla scored before David Lilley missed to deny Thistle a famous victory.

Celtic make Pars pay

BBC
Dunfermline Athletic 1-4 Celtic

Dunfermline leaked goals in now traditional fashion as Celtic won the second versus third clash at East End Park.

Henrik Larsson and Alan Thompson put Celtic ahead at the break despite early Pars pressure.

Craig Brewster put Dunfermline back into the game early in the second half.

But a mistake by Scott Thomson gifted Stilian Petrov the third and Chris Sutton made the home side pay for pushing forward in an attempt to salvage a point with the fourth.

Dunfermline, who had lost 26 goals in seven straight defeats by Celtic, man-marked around the park but were far from negative in the early stages.

A quick free-kick by Thomson allowed Steve Crawford to deliver a dangerous cross that Bobo Balde was forced to clear from in front of an unguarded net.

Crawford again threatened and, when his shot was blocked, Brewster followed up with a drive that flew a few yards wide.

Scotland striker Crawford next forced Jonathan Gould into a block from a low, 12-yard drive.

Celtic eventually threatened after 10 minutes, a low cross across the face of goal from Didier Agathe finding no takers.

Pars goalkeeper Marco Ruitenbeek was eventually called into the action five minutes later, turning a dipping 25-yard drive from Larsson over the bar.

Dunfermline rallied and Gould was again to the rescue, knocking a low drive from Gary Dempsey clear one-handed.

Celtic took the lead against the run of play after 24 minutes.

Petrov played the ball into the path of Larsson and the Swede, who had lost marker Scott Wilson, placed the ball wide of Ruitenbeek from 12 yards.

Celtic gained in confidence and their gradual stranglehold on possession told after 31 minutes when Thompson powered a curling drive with his left foot into the far corner of the net from 18 yards.

Sutton should have made it three when he beat Dunfermline's offside trap but shot wide of the far post with only Ruitenbeek to beat.

Dunfermline were back in the match after 56 minutes when Gould failed to command his six-yard box.

Thomson's high ball into a crowded goalmouth found the net when it was met by Brewster's head before the goalkeeper's glove.

It was Dunfermline's turn to exert pressure and a Brewster drive was held by Gould at the second attempt.

Dunfermline went all out for the equaliser but gifted Celtic a third when Thomson failed to cut out a Larsson pass and Petrov side footed past the exposed Ruitenbeek.

A Petrov chip sent Sutton clear to round Ruitenbeek and finish the scoring after 84 minutes.
