Review

Caley Thistle started brightly enough, with Barry Robson looking lively, and Richie Hart fired in the first shot after three minutes, but the ball flew harmlessly over.

Jackie McNamara had Celtic's first real attempt on goal after eight minutes, but the long-range effort failed to test Mark Brown. McNamara was again thwarted by Brown as he latched onto David Fernandez' through ball.

Shaun Maloney tested Brown with a trademark free kick from the edge of the box on the half-hour mark, but the keeper saw enough of the ball to comfortably tip it over the bar.

Caley Thistle had not tested Javier Sanchez Broto in the entire first half, but they took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Wyness ran onto Hart's cutback to slip the ball past the keeper.

Celtic started the second half keen to get an equaliser as early as possible and Henrik Larsson was first to get an effort on target, but his header did not have sufficient power to test Brown.

Brown had to be at his best in 53 minutes when Fernandez fed Larsson who found space and looked certain to score, but the keeper somehow managed to push the ball wide.

The game was being played almost entirely in the Caley half by this stage and the home defence did well to deflect a Jamie Smith shot wide.

In 72 minutes, Ross Tokely made a tremendous double clearance off the line as first Smith and then Larsson got efforts on target.

Hartson was next to be denied by Brown, the keeper reacting superbly to get down at his near post to keep out the Welshman's header.
