Quick Review

Chivas forced a corner on the left in seven minutes and after Stephen McManus had cleared to the edge of the box, Patricio Araujo’s volley was spectacularly tipped over by David Marshall. Adolfo Batista was next to try his luck, but his clever lob found the roof of the net.
Riordan, making his first Celtic start, looked bright in the early stages and continually dropped deep to link midfield and attack. The Hoops were moving the ball about with confidence in the game’s opening quarter but found themselves up against a well-organised Chivas back three.
Riordan almost got on the end of a Kenny Miller cross as half time approached, before Gary Caldwell was harshly booked for a foul on Bravo close to the halfway line.
The Hoops finished the first period brighter and Miller was agonisingly close to connecting with Mark Wilson’s curling centre.
Aiden McGeady then showed great trickery to create space on the edge of the box, but his left-foot drive was blocked.
Substitute Beattie, who looks sharper with every passing game, drifted a header wide of the post in the 58th minute as Celtic searched for an opener. Minutes later, Miller was inches away from connecting with Beattie’s cut-back after Michel flapped at a ball into the box.
In injury-time, McGeady lofted a cross over for Beattie, whose downwards header bounced the wrong side of the post, to the relief of the beaten Michel.

Trivia

Celtic's second match of their ten-day pre-season tour of America ended in a goalless draw as Mexicans Chivas celebrated their centenary year at New Jersey’s Giants Stadium.
With a huge Scottish and Irish population living in and around the Big Apple, thousands of Hoops shirts and Celtic flags were visible in the sloping stands of the impressive Giants Stadium, on a balmy summer evening in New Jersey.
Like the Wisla Krakow match in Poland last week, this friendly had been arranged to celebrate the Mexican side’s centenary season.
