Celtic 3-0 Dundee United BBC
Scott McDonald celebrates his first goal against United
Celtic moved back to the top of the SPL table on goal difference after Scott McDonald fired a hat-trick against Dundee United.
McDonald put the home side in front after seven minutes with a close-range header after Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's effort was blocked.
United defender Darren Dods spurned a great chance to equalise before McDonald struck again.
The Australian's cool finishes in 67 and 72 minutes sealed the points.
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan made three changes for United's visit to Celtic Park.
Jean-Joel Perrier Doumbe and midfielders Paul Hartley and Aiden McGeady returned for the SPL champions.
John Kennedy, Evander Sno and Derek Riordan dropping to the bench after starring in the CIS Insurance Cup win over Dundee.
United boss Craig Levein included Scotland international Barry Robson and Morgaro Gomis after both players shrugged off knocks picked up during the CIS Cup win over Falkirk.
McDonald looked dangerous for Celtic in the early stages of the match and he opened the scoring after seven minutes.
McGeady raced to the by-line and his cross was headed towards goal by Vennegoor of Hesselink.
United keeper Grzegorz Szamotulski parried the Dutchman's effort, but McDonald was on hand to force the ball home.
Scott Brown and Jordan Robertson compete for the ball
United failed to take their chances before Celtic doubled their lead
McDonald and Massimo Donati played a one-two past United stopper Lee Wilkie after 34 minutes, but Donati's tame effort was easily saved by Szamotulski.
Jordan Robertson forced a save from Celtic keeper Artur Boruc, before Chris Killen replaced the injured Vennegoor of Hesselink.
Killen spurned a great chance to double Celtic's lead just after half-time when he sent a 16-yard shot wide after superb link-up play between McGeady and Doumbe.
Darren Dods should have equalised for United but headed wide from a corner.
McDonald made the defender pay for his profligacy when he got his and Celtic's second goal.
Scott Brown laid the ball off to the Australian striker after a mazy run and McDonald rounded Szamotulski before slotting the ball into the net.
McDonald completed his hat-trick in style after 71 minutes when he drove the ball into the net from McGeady's low cross.
