Review

from KDS forum:
Truly fantastic performance. Truly fantastic.

Everyone put in a superb display, everyone to a man. Even Gary Hooper, who I thought started rather sluggishly, upped his game and finished terrifically for his goal. Commons proved once again what a great piece of business he has been. Two very good goals and was unlucky not to get his hat trick at the start of the second half. Stokes probably could have had a few more at least as well. Apart from the scorers, the whole team also contributed well by playing some sublime stuff. Kilmarnock just did not know how to deal with us at times. At one point, when we were passing it to death at the end and ripping the piss with the 'waaay' chants after each pass, a guy behind me remarked with 'come on Celtic, stop it now, for their sake'. Summed the performance up really.

The atmosphere was electric as well. The applause and roar for Neil Lennon was very stirring. A year ago, there was a downbeat feeling of malaise hanging over our club. What a difference a year has made. Even if we don't win this title, we have our Celtic back.

Even though a draw would be more than good enough on Sunday, as it would take the league out of Rangers' hands, I pray to God this Celtic side are fearless enough to go out and have the cheek to gub Rangers on their own patch. It would be nothing short of glorious.

Celtic handed Neil Lennon the emphatic victory he craved at the end of a day in which this keenly contestedtitle race paled into insignificance. Revelations that Lennon was one of three people sent explosive devices in the post overshadowed events in Kilmarnock. As rude awakenings go, for Scottish football and the country's society, this should count.
Nonetheless, Celtic afforded their young manager at least an enjoyable evening's work. Lennon's team, largely by virtue of a ruthless first-half display in which a Kris Commons double and goal from Gary Hooper all but sealed success, will start Sunday's Old Firm derby a point behind Rangers with a game in hand. There seemed extra emotion attached to Lennon taking to the field at full-time here, as he routinely does after away matches, to salute the Celtic following.
The fans had chanted Lennon's name throughout the previous 90 minutes, during which the manager was afforded simply a normal night at the office. It is to the former Celtic captain's continued credit that off-field turmoil does not appear to impact at all on his working routine.
"What has happened to him is madness," Lennon's assistant, Johan Mjällby, said of the manager's treatment. "It shouldn't happen to anyone, no matter what they do in life. He probably had a tear in his eye tonight. The supporters showed what he means to them."
There was little surprise attached to Lennon's avoidance of media duties after the match in Ayrshire. Television crews had been camped outside Rugby Park for hours, awaiting the arrival of Celtic's team bus in what was merely the start of an evening in which the manager's every move would be monitored and further analysed.
On the field, for all Kilmarnock were poor and guilty of trying to pass the ball in areas that were always likely to do them more harm than good, Celtic attacked with eye-catching, relentless verve. Commons supplied the latest indication of his useful scoring touch with only four minutes played, collecting a Hooper pass before slotting home from 12 yards. Quite why the Kilmarnock defence saw fit to leave Commons completely unmarked is another matter.
Some 16 minutes later, there was an orchestrated show of support from the Celtic fans towards their manager by virtue of applause, and song ensued. Kilmarnock's error-strewn opening had not givenCeltic punished Kilmarnock's lameness further before the break. Commons claimed possession as it was cheaply conceded in midfield, the former Derby County man played a one-two with Hooper which was followed up by an angled finish.
Not to be outdone, Hooper promptly added his name to the scoresheet. The striker's 18-yard effort took a deflection on its way past Anssi Jaakkola, not that it seemed to matter.
For Kilmarnock's interim manager Kenny Shiels, this was hardly a glowing endorsement of his full-time job credentials. "That was the best display I have seen from a team in the SPL all season," Shiels said of the Celtic showing, a indication that Kilmarnock's visitors had a cause behind which to rally.
Commons's hat-trick bid was only narrowly thwarted, by the upright. Still, Kilmarnock's porous defending rendered their further concession of goals almost inevitable. Anthony Stokes endorsed that point, driving high into the net in rounding off a brisk move involving Charlie Mulgrew and the outstanding Hooper.
For the closing stages, Celtic's support could enjoy themselves. The display had given Lennon equal, professional peace of mind. Onwards, now, to Ibrox.

Kenny Shiels, Killie caretaker Manager compliments our fans.

Kilmarnock caretaker manager Kenny Shiels believes Lennon's troubles helped galvanise the players and support.

"There were influential factors in the way Celtic played and the manager must be very proud tonight," Shiels said.

"They got an early goal which set the standard for the rest of the evening.

"When I heard my reaction was disappointment and sympathy for him, he is in the same profession as I am and I don't want anything to happen to anyone.

"I know if I was playing for someone, I would be doing my utmost to show I was supportive of him and that's exactly what the Celtic players did tonight.

"It's the best performance that I've seen from any team this season in the SPL.

"They were crisp in their passing and clinical in their finishing, it was a massive performance and we couldn't get near them at times.

"I don't want to take away from the quality, they produced that because they have that in them.

"There was so much energy emanating from the Celtic support. If I was a neutral I would have thought the Celtic support were fantastic.

"I have never heard the Celtic support like that. Not only were the players supportive of the manager, the supporters played their part too and the quality they produced was the icing on the cake."

Kilmarnock 0-4 Celtic

By Martin Conaghan
Celtic reduced Rangers' lead at the top of the league table to one point with an impressive victory at Kilmarnock.
A well-worked move saw Gary Hooper set up Kris Commons to fire in the opener after just four minutes.
The Scotland international doubled his tally after the half-hour mark with a fine drive, then Hooper struck from 18 yards just before the interval.
Anthony Stokes hit the roof of the net for Celtic's fourth in the 58th minute with a powerful shot from 10 yards.

The win puts pressure on league leaders Rangers ahead of Sunday's crucial Glasgow derby when Neil Lennon's Celtic make the trip to Ibrox, having played one match fewer than their rivals.
Lennon made two changes with Daniel Majstorovic and midfielder James Forrest coming in for Thomas Rogne and the injured Joe Ledley, while Manuel Pascali returned to the Killie defence after serving a ban, replacing Garry Hay and David Silva came in for Rui Miguel.
With just four minutes played, Izaguirre laid off to Hooper on the left, who then set up Commons on the edge of the box and the midfielder struck past Anssi Jaakkola in the Kilmarnock goal.
Stokes then fired a long range shot that Jaakkola held comfortably, before Commons sent a 25-yard shot overt the crossbar as Killie struggled to get out of their own half.
Silva tested visiting keeper Fraser Forster in the 17th minute from a narrow angle on the left-hand side, but the big keeper made an instinctive save with his feet to maintain the visitors' lead.
On 18 minutes, the travelling support launched a rousing support for their manager – who wore the number 18 jersey in his playing career with the Glasgow club – following a tumultuous week for the Northern Irishman.
A scramble in the Killie goalmouth ended when Liam Kelly made a vital clearance near the half hour mark.
Moments later, Commons slid in to dispossess James Fowler then pounced on a pass from Hooper before blasting home his second of the evening from 16 yards.
Six more minutes passed and Lennon's men were three goals to the good when Hooper netted his 18th goal of the season, collecting from Stokes, before sidestepping Pascali and rifling in from the edge of the penalty area.
Shortly after the restart, Stokes contrived to miss from two yards out after Hooper had crossed in from the right, then Commons struck the underside of the Killie crossbar.
The onslaught continued when Stokes shaved the top of the Killie goal with a powerful shot from wide on the left.
As the hour mark approached, Mulgrew sent a long ball forward for Hooper to cut back from the edge of the Killie penalty area, then Stokes sent his shot straight into the back of the net from 10 yards out to increase the lead to four.
Jamie Hamill rolled a side-footed effort straight at Forster after breaking free of the Celtic defence, but the big keeper was unfazed.
A patient build-up handed Mark Wilson a rare shot at goal, but his long-range effort inched wide of the mark, then Hooper had a shot from 10 yards tipped over the Killie bar by Jaakkola after Silva had put Forster under pressure at the away end.
A cheeky chip from Georgios Samaras in the final 10 minutes of the match failed to catch the Killie keeper off-guard, then Kieran Agard was bundled off the ball in the Celtic penalty area after breaking loose with two defenders to beat.
An injury-time free-kick for the hosts was easily headed clear by Mulgrew and Celtic held on for a clean sheet and three precious points.
