Biog

Glasgow-born defender who emerged from the pro-youth setup, playing U15 stuff in 1999-00. He had been spotted charging about for Scotland U14 schoolboys while a pupil at Holyrood Secondary. Taken on by the club on a modern apprenticeship, he played in an 8-2 Youth Cup win at Montrose in November 2002 (the game in which Sandy Wood was scouted).

Gary Irvine seems to have been preferred as U19 right-back for the rest of the campaign, and Ballantyne moved on to Motherwell during the 2002-03 season. He made an SPL appearance for Motherwell on the last day, replacing Martyn Corrigan for the last 15 minutes of a 6-2 win over Livingston. Corrigan was unamused since he'd played every minute of every game until that point!

The game itself was a dead rubber, as bottom-of-the-League Motherwell controversially dodged relegation – First Division winners Falkirk had seen their ramshackle Brockville ground deemed unsuitable for top-flight football.

During the following season Motherwell released him and he finished 2003-04 at Fauldhouse Athletic Juniors.

Since then Ross has continued to tread the Junior circuit, with two years at Kilwinning Rangers (2004-06), another two at Arthurlie (2006-08), then two at East Kilbride Thistle (2008-10). He signed for Rutherglen Glencairn in August 2010.
