Had signed an S-Form with the Club in January 1990 and played with Celtic Boys Club from U14 level signing an X-Form on 7/1/92. Worked his way up through the teams and was taken onto the groundstaff as a part-timer once he reached 16. Gary was awarded a full professional contract at the start of the 93/94 season and began playing for the Reserve Lague West and Premier Reserve sides. He was a main choice central midfield player for the Premier Reserves through season 94/95 when he won a Friendly debut in Ian Rush's Testimonial game and made the first team squad on a number of occasions without getting on to play. He was noted as a decent play maker and passer and thought highly of. Unfortunately 95/96 was an injury-ridden season for Gary and he failed to attain his full prospects.
He was released at the end of the season and joined Stirling Albion in February '97 after a short term contract with Bournemouth and a trial with Hereford. He left them at the end of 97/98 and had games with Queens Park Strollers.
He went on to play Junior football with Maryhill and Kilsyth Rangers and currently plays for Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.
