BiogCorrigan, Edward - The Celtic Wiki

Inside-left Edward Corrigan signed for Celtic from Petershill in October 1924.

Some said he could be the ‘new Patsy Gallacher‘. The first of many contenders for this daunting task, and again it wasn’t to be.

“Have Celtic found Patsy Gallagher’s successor? How many clubs were after this boy?” (Jan 1923)

He made his debut at outside-left (so out of position) on October 25th in a 1-0 defeat to Rangers in a Scottish league tie at Celtic Park.

Although he reverted back to his usual position afterwards he managed only three further Celtic first team league appearances, but all three matches were heavy losses.

In total, he played in two losses v Rangers, one v Airdrie and one v Cowdenbeath, all in season 1924/25. It didn’t help his case. As a forward he can hardly be held liable alone for these defeats, but only two goals were scored by the first team with around eleven concede in those matches, and he never scored for Celtic.

It didn’t likely help that he was thrown in on his debut against Rangers, who were at that time by far the in-form club in Scotland.

He was far off from achieving the ‘New Patsy Gallacher‘ benchmark.

He was put on loan to Ayr Utd (28 Nov 1925) and St Bernards (20 Jan 1926).

He left to join Dundee in September 1926, just as Celtic had won the league title in season 1925/26 but Ned Corrigan sadly didn’t play a part in any of those matches that season so left without any major silverware.

He later returned to St Bernards in 1927, but appears to have soon ended his time in senior football after being freed by St Bernards in the summer of 1927.
