Biog

Dublin-born Billy Crone was signed by Celtic in November 1913 from Belfast Celtic.

Used as cover for the immense talents of Patsy Gallacher and Jimmy McMenemy, Crone was a clever inside forward.

He made his debut in the 1-0 home league win over Hamilton on November 22nd 1913.

It was always going to be difficult for anyone to force their way into such a talented side as the Celtic of this era but the gifted Crone was certainly an able deputy with a good eye for goal.

Notably he played in the Celtic side that went 62 games undefeated, but Crone only played in three of the matches and scored one goal.

He netted nine times in 17 Celtic appearances before returning to Ireland in October 1916 to play for Distillery.

Billy Crone played also for: Belfast Celtic; Distillery; Glentoran.

I beleive this to be my late great(possibly great great) UNcle, also known as Towser Crone.
I was often told as a child that he, who had died long before I was born, was the only player to play for both Belfast Celtic and Glasgow Celtic.
Is this true?
Many thanks
G
