Great Celtic Action From the 60sDoes what it says on the tin. A collection of 7 games that took place between 65 and 68 and involves extended highlights of games from that period and as you would expect feature the Lions before and after their triumph in Lisbon. Some of which you would be unlikely to see under any other circumstances.

First up is highlights of the 65 Cup Final against Dunfermline and the turning point in Celtic’s fortunes as they won the cup for the first time in 11 years a few months after Stein had taken charge. You forget how spoilt you are these days with multiple camera angles as all these games are shot with one camera.
The cup final is followed by 2 away league wins in 68 at Tynecastle and a 6-0 thumping of Kilmarnock at Rugby Park with Willie Wallace bagging 4 goals.
There is no chronology to the games as 4th game is Celtic’s first game on home soil after winning the European Cup. As part of Queens Park’s centenary celebrations Hampden park hosted a game between Spurs, the English Cup winners and Celtic as a season opener. This was a Spurs side full of stars with Greaves, Gilzean and Venables to name a few. A hugely entertaining game saw the honours even in a 3-3 draw.
Next up is a complete mudbath of a game at Celtic Park against Raith Rovers. Wallace scored another Hat trick as Jinky ran riot.
The final two games are both from 66, are both defeating the hun and both have that rarity of a derby hat-trick. First to score 3 goals is Lennox in a 4-0 early season Glasgow Cup final win at Ibrox. The second game on the DVD actually took place 7 months earlier in the New Year Derby and this time Chalmers bagged 3 although the camera man managed to miss one of Celtic’s goals.
Overall this was an enjoyable selection of games, some of which you would be unlikely to see much of apart from the odd goal in compilations. It’s something the club should do for the 70s and 80s. There is always a market for nostalgia. There is also a release ‘More action from the 60s’ on video.
