John Paul Dow had played for Celtic Boys Club whilst attending St Stephen's School, Greenock. Through season 94/95 he played for CBC U15 and signed an S-Form to the club. He was picked for Scottish Schoolboys U15 this season. He also played for the Boys Club in the Ayr International. Youth Tournament in June '94 where he won the top scorer award. He was Celtic Boys Club Player of the Year (for the U14's) in 1995 and 1996 (for the U15's).
He was taken on by the club at the start of the 96/97 season playing Youth & Reserve team football this season but gradually his appearances tailed off towards the end of the season – partly due to the rise of Mark Burchill through the ranks.
In his second season as a pro with the club he again played regularly for the Youth and Reserve teams and made an appearance in a Friendly against Ross County on 27/10/1997 in a 4-0 win away to the Dingwall club. He was released at the end of the season and joined Motherwell to the end of the 98/99 season.

He played for Greenock Juniors until 2008 when he signed for Largs Thistle. Reached the Junior Cup final in 2010 with Largs, losing to Linlithgow Rose.
