Gallagher, James - The Celtic Wiki

Coatbridge-born James Gallagher signed for the Bhoys in September 1929 after turning out for Coatbridge Emerald and Shettleston Celtic.

At the young age of only 19, the centre-half made his league debut at Ibrox in place of the flu-stricken Willie McStay but the Bhoys went down 1-0 to Rangers after conceding a late goal. Asking a lot to take the place of a major experienced player.

He played the next week in a 4-0 home victory over Hibs but never went on to make another competitive senior appearance.

Celtic finished the league in fourth place in season 1929-30 well behind title winners Rangers.

After several loan spells (including one at Belfast Celtic) he was eventually released in May 1932.
