BiogGoldie, Hugh - Pic

The athletic and hard working Hugh Goldie was brought to Celtic in May 1897 from Everton. He was brought in by the club having become a limited company, and hoping to import some 'dons' glory.

The Dalry-born former St Mirren man made his debut in a 2-1 Glasgow Cup win over Clyde at Celtic Park on September 18th. He was part of the Celtic side that hammered Rangers 4-0 at Ibrox in Sep 1897 in what was called the finest football played that season.

He would play 27 times for the first team and scored one goal, and won a League Title medal for 1897-98. He was released in January 1899 as part of a series of budget cuts at Parkhead after Barney Battles was brought back to Celtic.

He would join Dundee the next month and then went on to play for Barry Town and Millwall amongst others.
