Biog
A midfielder with Celtic for a short period of time around the turn of the Century after joining from Rosario Youth Club at St. Colman's High School. In October 1999 he recieved a call into the Republic of Ireland U16 squad as Celtic player, but by the following summer was playing for Co. Down in the annual Milk Cup youth tournament while attached to Ballynahinch Olympic.
After apparently failing to settle in Scotland, Kilmartin was loaned to Glentoran on 16 February 2000. He played park football with Dromara, Drumaness, Drumalee and Ballynahinch upon his return to NI.
He next came to prominence after Glentoran picked him up again in Summer 2002. As an ex-pro with Celtic, the Irish Football Association were of the opinion that Glentoran ought to have transferred his registration from Glasgow rather than fielding him on a non-contract basis and duly clobbered the East Belfast outfit with a 12 point deduction and £7,000 fine. However – perhaps inevitably – the hapless IFA were shown to be talking out of their hats as FIFA quickly stepped in and revoked the punishment, remarking that the six counties beaks had failed to implement their own rules.
Meanwhile Glentoran romped to the League title with Kilmartin a conspicuous presence in the midfield engine room. He has since moved on to Distillery, the club who produced such luminaries as Martin O'Neill and Anton Rogan, where he continues as a first team regular in the number seven jersey.
